Standardized tests, such as GRE, GMAT, MCAT, LSAT, SAT, DAT,
OAT, ... are one critical factor, but not the only one, in getting admitted to
your school of choice or in choosing your future field. The web is
abundant with resources that can help you improve your score. You can
score higher by establishing and committing to a suitable plan.
Please keep in mind these tips:
- Remember to maintain notes of what is important.
- Avoid cramming before the test. It is best to learn
the subject matter of an extended period of time at a pace that is both
comfortable and practical.
- Use search engines advanced search options to learn more
about any aspect of the tests you are interested in. For example, if
you are interested in learning more about cell division, go to Google
advanced search and filter by the PowerPoint file type and by the .edu
domain.
- Do not rush and purchase books and references before you
check what is available at your local public library, university library, or
even what your friends have.
- Join for free online groups and communities where members
exchange tips and even sample questions. Some specialized groups are
listed below.
- Practice as much as you can with practice tests in an
environment and time frame similar to that of the actual tests.
- Sign up for special classes at school or in your
locality. Check out Kaplan and Princeton Review. Kaplan has
unique plans for the GRE.
It is best to sign up for classes when you can commit to certain schedule,
otherwise, study at your leisure by utilizing web courses or resources you
yourself obtain.
